Welcome to the SEO project

We started on 4th June 2011 with the objective of following SEO advice and tracking our rise through the rankings. We hope that the resulting guide, so you can mimic the rise on your own website, will prove invaluable to all businesses.

4th June 2011
website registered. Hosting sorted out. Nameservers changed to our hosting provider. Version 1 of index.asp written and uploaded. Go to www.theSEOproject.co.uk for the first time and, hurrah, the journey has begun. Blast off!

9th June 2011
We are making good progress with the intial steps. We've registered on some of the main social networking sites, have set up a few backlinks from some of the websites we have done work for before, are getting going with our blog and tweets, and are developing some of the content for the website.

16th June 2011
We are starting to build up some content and advice on The SEO Project website, for example see our new page on setting up your business Facebook page. We are still waiting for Alexa to find us, meanwhile we have turned on our site statistics so we can see how many visitors we are getting now.

24th June 2011
Happy Days! The work we have put in is giving some results. We now appear on Alexa.com, so we can now use this as one of our benchmarks. We are position number 13,844,540, so there are now fewer than 14 million sites above us, not something to be proud of yet! Back to work.

Internet Marketing: the way forward?

Remember that web marketing is just part of an overall strategy of most businesses. Furthermore you need to decide whether you are using your website to showcase your products to customers gained through traditional methods, to obtain sales leads, to sell your brand, or to generate leads or sales for individual products. Each requires a different approach of content, structure and SEO.

Can I do SEO myself

The answer is a resounding yes. We provide the guidance and supporting documentation to walk you through pushing your website up the rankings. If you value your money more than your time, or have slack in your staffing, then you may want to start this way. However we have more experience, technical know-how, and systems in place to support SEO that if you are a successful business we strongly recommend spending a relatively small percentage of your marketing budget and save yourself the time and hassle. And you pay only on results!
